5 Things I Wish Every Woman Knew Before Her First Boudoir Session!!
When women reach out to me about boudoir, I get SO excited.
It is a conversation I genuinely love having because boudoir photography is something I am incredibly passionate about. I could talk about it all day the experience, the confidence, the nerves, the excitement, the transformation, and most importantly, the women who walk through my studio doors.
If you've ever had a question about boudoir, wondered what actually happens during a session, or simply wanted to know more, I am always here and ready to talk. There is never a silly question, and you never have to feel embarrassed about asking me anything.
So, here are 5 things I wish every woman knew before her first boudoir session.
1. You do NOT need to know how to pose.
Seriously. That is my job.
You do not need to practice poses before your session. You don't need to know what to do with your hands, where to put your legs, how to arch your back, or what expression to make. When you arrive at my studio in Cobourg, Ontario, I start by showing you around the space and walking you through the entire experience. I'll tell you what to expect, answer any last-minute questions or concerns, and make sure you feel comfortable before we even start taking photographs.
Then comes one of my favourite parts...
Outfits!
We go through your options together and decide what you're feeling best in. You don't have to walk into my studio knowing exactly what you want to wear or how you want your session to look. We figure it out together.
And once we start shooting, I guide you through every single pose.
You don't have to know what you're doing.
You just have to show up.
2. You do NOT have to look like a model.
Boudoir isn't about fitting into a certain body type.
It isn't about being a certain size, having a flat stomach, looking a certain way, or waiting until you've reached some imaginary version of "perfect."
It's about photographing YOU in a way that makes you look and feel beautiful.
And honestly? Boudoir is about so much more than beautiful photographs.
It's about confidence.
It's about empowerment.
It's about allowing yourself to be seen. Because being a woman in this world can be HARD. We are often our own biggest and harshest critics. We're constantly comparing ourselves, looking for approval, seeking acceptance, and feeling like we need to look or act a certain way to be worthy. And somewhere along the way, so many of us start believing that if we aren't this or that, then somehow we aren't enough.
Not beautiful enough.
Not thin enough.
Not young enough.
Not sexy enough.
Not worthy enough of being loved or wanted. That feeling of not being enough is horrible. And I want to be part of changing that. I want women to see themselves the way I see them. I want to remind women that they are already enough. I want to help women recognize how incredible they truly are. I want to adjust crowns—not knock them off. I want you to walk into my studio exactly as you are and leave feeling better than you ever thought possible.
3. You're going to be nervous—and that is 100% okay.
Actually, scratch that. You're probably going to be a ball of nerves.
And that is completely okay. Almost every woman who walks into my studio tells me some version of: "I'm so nervous." And my answer is always the same "That's okay."
You are safe here. You will never be asked to do something that makes you uncomfortable. You are never expected to push past a boundary just because we're taking photographs. You can tell me NO. Your comfort comes first. Always. This is your experience, and you are in control of it. And I promise, something magical happens once we get started. That nervous woman who walked through my studio door starts to loosen up. She starts laughing. She starts having fun. She starts seeing herself differently. And by the time you leave, you might just be wondering "Why the hell was I so nervous in the first place?" You are going to leave happy.
Confident.
Empowered.
And, yes...
Incredibly sexy.
4. Your images are for YOU—and they don't have to go anywhere else.
This is something I want every woman to know. You never have to share your images.
Your photographs are yours. Your comfort and privacy are incredibly important to me, and I do not take that responsibility lightly. I truly hope you fall completely in love with your images and with your experience. I hope you are so excited about what we create together that you want to share them, talk about them, and celebrate them.
But if you don't? That's okay too. You don't owe anyone your images. You don't have to post them on Instagram. You don't have to share them with your partner. You don't have to show your friends. You can keep them completely private and simply have them for yourself. And honestly, there is something pretty damn special about that.
5. I hope the experience becomes more important than the images.
Of course, I want you to LOVE your photographs. I want you to look at them and think, "Holy shit. That's me." But more than anything, I hope you fall in love with the experience. I hope you love having time that is completely for you. I hope you love allowing yourself to be seen. I hope you love stepping outside of your comfort zone. I hope you discover a confidence you didn't know you had. And I hope you leave my studio realizing that you were enough all along. Enough exactly as you are. No matter your age. No matter your shape. No matter where you are in life. No matter what your body looks like today. You don't have to wait until you lose weight. You don't have to wait until you feel more confident. You don't have to wait until you look different. You are worthy of celebrating right now. And if I can help even one woman see herself a little differently to recognize her beauty, her strength, her confidence, and everything that makes her uniquely HER then I have done exactly what I set out to do.
So if you've been thinking about boudoir but you're nervous, curious, unsure, or have a million questions...
Talk to me.
Seriously.
Ask me anything.
There is absolutely no pressure and no silly questions.
I would genuinely love to hear from you. 🤍
You don't have to be confident before you book your boudoir session. Sometimes, confidence is what you discover along the way.
